Preschool Director – Sally Swanson

How wonderful to be part of the staff at Mouzon United Methodist Church! I grew up in Greenville, NC and went to UNC-Chapel Hill, where I met my husband Gary. We have been in Charlotte over 29 years now, and we’ve been married 39 years. We have two children, Michael and Sarah, who are both in their 20’s. In my free time, I enjoy knitting, reading, and puzzles. I’ve been a Preschool Director for 17 years now, and still love it! My vision is to continue the school’s philosophy of being a loving, caring, and nurturing place for children, where we can provide a strong foundation for the spiritual, academic, and social growth of children.Cherish your children—they grow up before you know it! Lay good foundations of happy family times, and hopefully, you will enjoy every age and stage of their development. I am so fortunate that in my family, we still relish doing so many things together, like attending sports events, travelling, game nights, late night conversations, movies.

One-year-old Teacher – Michelle Yon

My name is Michelle Yon.  I am originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador.  I moved to Charlotte 14 years ago from Florida.  I have been married with my husband Roberto for 15 years, and have two terrific kids, Leonardo (11) and Abigail (9).  My family and I enjoy travelling, hiking, and trying new foods.  I have taught preschool for about 4 years now and I have been a summer camp teacher at Mouzon for the last two years.  My favorite thing about teaching is all the hugs I get from my little friends.  I am looking forward to be the new one- year-old teacher and I am very grateful for the opportunity.

Two-year-old Teacher – Jennifer Sullivan

My name is Jennifer Sullivan.  I am the mother to two awesome children.  My son Christian is 10-years-old.  My daughter Haven is 5-years-old, and formerly attended preschool here at Mouzon.  I am an active member of our church, Cornerstone Family Worship, where I also teach Sunday school classes!

I have been blessed to follow my passion in life.  Teaching preschool has been such a rewarding career.  I started taking early childhood classes while still in high school and continued my education at Gaston College.  I have been fortunate enough to work with all ages – birth through after-school – throughout my career.  I have worked exclusively with two-year-olds for the past 15 years and have enjoyed every minute of it!  I have been at Mouzon three 1/2 years now!

Three-year-old Teacher – Jackie Shropshire

Jackie has been working with children since she was 15, and truly has a passion for it. She has worked with various ages, most recently with Three-year-olds. With her positive energy, she is in her second year with Mouzon.

Four-year-old Teacher – Robin Hall

My name is Robin Hall.  I live in Mint Hill with my husband of 24 years, Byron, and our 2 girls.  Sky (20) is working towards her bachelor’s degree in nutrition and Lacey (16) is a senior at Independence High School. I am originally from Upstate New York and moved to NC in 1999 and we couldn’t be happier. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and cherish every moment as life is a precious gift. Some of my favorite things to do include reading, going for walks, going to the beach, and camping.

I have an A.A.S degree in Early Childhood Education from Cazenovia College and have worked with children since graduation.  I absolutely love what I do and do my best to give all the children the necessary tools to prepare them for kindergarten with love and encouragement.  I am beginning my 5th year teaching at Mouzon.

Favorite quote:

While we try to teach our children all about life,
Our children teach us what life is all about.

Teacher and Floater – Carey Cavanaugh

My name is Carey Cavanaugh. I am delighted to be joining the Mouzon Preschool Staff Family here in 2017! You will find me assisting Ms. Jennifer, lead teacher, in the two’s class.

Originally from Virginia, I moved to Charlotte after college in 1993 where I met my Michigander husband Tom. We have enjoyed watching this city grow and change just like our two amazing children; son, Taylor, 14 and daughter, Keagan, 9, who both attend Montessori Schools.

In addition to shaping and guiding my own two kids, I found myself leaving the corporate world behind to immerse myself in the life of children. Throughout this journey, I have volunteered and substituted inside and out of my children’s schools and classrooms, attended multiple parenting and child development training courses and seminars, become a nanny and a preschool Sunday School teacher. I am so excited to start this next adventure in the classroom at Mouzon!

As children often find it strange to see their teacher outside of their classroom, Mouzon children might find me in my garden, walking my dog, cooking yummy food or relaxing on my front porch with my family. I love the outdoors!
