March 6:  Call to Prayer & Self Denial

Theme:  Property Makes Mission Possible

March 6 @ 9:00 am to 11:30 am:  Meet at Church for clean-up and organization of Mouzon property which makes our mission possible.  At 11:30 we will have a light lunch and service.

The 2010 Call to Prayer and Self-Denial offering fund will provide for capital expenditures at mission institutions related to the Women’s Division of the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, United Methodist Women’s national policy-making arm. In the United States, these institutions include community centers, women’s residences, schools, colleges and residential treatment centers. Internationally, these institutions include hostels, residences, hospitals, clinics, schools, and community and day-care centers. The offering will be divided between U.S. and international projects. Funds from this observance will be used to expand facilities for new and emerging programs, as well as for repairs and renovations to maintain and enhance established ministries with women, children and youth.

 Annual Events

October Bazaar
Held at the church for over 60 years, this Saturday regularly event draws hundreds of people from the community. Includes: Arts and crafts for holiday gift-giving, home canned and baked goods, Attic Sale, Silent Auction, "Second Glance", breakfast and lunch. 100% of money collected goes to local charities, such as Second Harvest Food Bank, Battered Women's Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, and Bethlehem Center.  The Bazaar for 2009 was held October 24th.

What began in 1945 as a group of ladies, making sandwiches to sell to the construction crew building the temporary church as a means of raising funds for the kitchen soon evolved into much larger endeavors.

Members led a group making knitted items and aprons and more crafts soon followed.  Baked goods and an attic sale were added to the mix.  A big part of the Bazaar was the children's carnival - with games, the Biltmore Dairy Train, and pony rides.

After more than 60 years, the Annual Fall Bazaar is still going strong.  From crafts and jewelry to Christmas decor and baked goods, bidding and bargain hunting, and catching up with friends over breakfast and lunch in the cafe, there is a lot to see and do - all for the benefit of missions.

Bethlehem Center was the first outreach mission funded by the Bazaar and continues today.  With many worthy missions funded over the years, a conservative estimate would be well over $300,000!
